Using saline, a water tank, and a model scaled for 'dynamic similarity', we demonstrate how the ventilation system of the Royal Victoria Hospital worked before the advent of mechanical ventilation and air-conditioning. The RVH was designed by Henry Saxon Snell and completed in 1893. For more on the salt bath technique, see https://doi.org/10.1017/S0022112090001987
