- This Data Management Plan (DMP) is for the Groundwater Science and Sustainability Research Group at the University of Victoria whose mission is advancing scientific research and engaging with governments and organizations to secure water resources in British Columbia and around the world.
This plan can be modified for specific projects and uses language and inspiration from previous exemplar plans in ecohydrology and open science. It helps us share more and make our lives easier by keeping our data organized and properly backed up so that we can:
- use data that we already have from previous projects;
- share data within our group and with others;
- back-up and archive data so that it will be useable by others in the future; and
- be at the forefront of open science, data transparency and sharing
Our publicly shared data is centrally organized on the ‘data’ or ‘publications’ pages of our group website. We are strongly committed to open science principles and practices by sharing:
- code through GitHub repositories;
- datasets of published results through UVic’s Dataverse or figshare;
- field data through community science portals such as anecdata;
- preprints of submitted manuscripts through EarthArXiv;
- plain language summaries though the Water Underground blog; and
- promoting our research on social media.
