City Of Surrey 2020-01-29 Safe mobility is about reducing the risk of harm on our streets for all road users. Improving road infrastructure, such as installing bike lanes, traffic calming measures, and signalized intersections helps to reduce conflicts on our roads. We work with schools to improve safety for kids and we operate a state-of-the-art traffic management centre to control congestion across the city in real-time. However, everyone plays a part in improving safety by being aware, respectful and focused while using Surrey's roads. The casualty collision rate per 100,000 population in Surrey is an indicator of how safe Surrey's roads are for all users and the City aims to see a downward trend over time. This indicator is also a performance measure for the Public Safety Strategy. See this and other sustainability indicators on the City's [Sustainability Dashboard](http://dashboard.surrey.ca/#public_safety/traffic_incidents)

City Of Surrey 2024-02-02 Traffic Detector Loop Counts web service provides data from the City’s traffic signal controller volume logs. Loops of wire embedded in the pavement are used to detect vehicles travelling through signalized intersections and the detections are logged by the traffic signal controller. Data is available for each detector loop in 15-minute bins. The LOOP_ID and DATETIME combinations are unique in the output. The locations for each traffic detector loop can be found [*here*](https://data.surrey.ca/dataset/traffic-loop-count/resource/220d913b-bf9f-4b9f-971c-bcc6931a81e1) in JSON format. The data is subject to errors that may arise from malfunctioning equipment, road construction, and limitations of the equipment. Damaged or failed equipment records zeros for the associated LOOP_ID. The average annual daily traffic counts can be found on the City of Surrey's [Traffic Data Hub](https://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=e55ffc744c15473a8a638d47a9d95d01&entry=4).

City Of Surrey 2014-09-05 Recreation and leisure helps to improve physical fitness, reduce stress, and contribute to general well-being. Ensuring that residents with low-income have access to City programs helps to ensure that all residents have equal opportunities to enjoy and benefit from recreation, leisure, and arts services. The proportion of low income individuals registered in the L.A.P. program is a measure of how available recreation, sport, and arts opportunities are to residents with financial barriers to access. City Of Surrey 2014-03-24 Transportation accounts for a large portion of greenhouse gas emissions in the province, with vehicles also contributing to traffic congestion, local air pollution and smog. Taking transit, walking, cycling, and carpooling are ways of getting around that have lower environmental impact, release fewer greenhouse gas emissions, have more health benefits, and contribute to cleaner and healthier communities. Modal share of travel to work is a measure of how sustainable our travel patterns are. Data sources: Translink Trip Diaries and Statistics Canada (Note: 2011 data quality may be inferior to previous years due to the voluntary nature of the National Household Survey that has replaced the mandatory long form census). City Of Surrey 2024-02-28 Tree canopy cover is the branches, stems, and leaves of trees that cover the ground when viewed from above. Tree canopy cover is commonly used to evaluate the urban forest; it is relatively easy to measure and is a good indicator of the urban forest’s distribution. It enables a municipality to track how its urban forest changes over time, and also how it compares to other communities. Tree canopy cover does not address ecosystem services or forest characteristics, such as health or species distribution. The City aims to achieve a citywide tree canopy cover of 30% by 2038. Please note the tree canopy cover estimates are based on available LiDAR data, accuracy of this data is influenced by the time of year the data is collected (i.e., early spring when deciduous trees don't have leaves).

City Of Surrey 2020-01-29 The move to digital platforms for service delivery and program registration presents an opportunity for efficiency and a measure of access for the community. The growing use of mobile devices changes the way we engage and register for programs and services. This indicator is a measure of the number of Parks, Recreation and Culture management system (PRCMS) program registrations initiated online as a percentage of the total PRCMS program registrations initiated each year. The City expects to see an upward trend as mobile device adoption also increases across the region, but recognizes the preference for in-person registration for many program participants.
