Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations FSIN 2024-08-12 The dataset is part of a Cultural Responsiveness Framework designed to improve health outcomes for First Nations peoples in Saskatchewan. Developed following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on First Nations Health and Well-Being in 2008, this dataset represents the final contributions from knowledge keepers before the framework was formalized into a theoretical model. The framework's purpose is to ensure that health services are respectful of and responsive to the cultural needs of First Nations communities. It highlights the need to restore First Nations' community-based health systems, establish a "middle ground" between mainstream and First Nations health systems, and transform mainstream health service delivery to be culturally responsive. The dataset covers extensive community engagement, strategic directions, objectives, and actions to foster culturally responsive care, improve communication and partnerships between health systems, and promote education in culturally responsive healthcare practices. The framework also emphasizes the importance of culturally competent policies, including traditional healing practices, and revitalizing First Nations languages and ceremonies within the healthcare system.
