Statistics Canada. Special Surveys Division. 2012-01-01 Statistics Canada was approached by Stentor Resource Centre Inc. to conduct a survey to monitor the telephone penetration rates across Canada. The survey determines if the respondents have a telephone line in their residence and, if not, information is collected on the reasons why. Information is also collected on the income characteristics of the selected households. The Labour Force Survey (LFS) supplementary capacity is used to conduct this quarterly survey. A sample of approximately 40,500 respondents is used for this survey (5 out of 6 rotation groups). The survey data is collected using Computer Assisted Interviewing (CAI). The first data collection took place during November's LFS week in 1998. This microdata file is prepared quarterly containing the variables from the survey plus geographical variables from the LFS (province, CMA, urban - rural breakdown). No other variables from the LFS are added to the file.

Statistics Canada. Special Surveys Division. 2013-06-24 The purpose of this survey is to collect data regarding unpaid volunteer activities, charitable giving and participation. The results will help build a better understanding of these activities which can in turn be used to help develop programs and services. This survey is an important source of information on Canadian contributory behaviour, including giving, volunteering and participating. The objectives of the CSGVP are threefold: 1) to collect national data to fill a void of information about individual contributory behaviours including volunteering, charitable giving and participation; 2) to provide reliable and timely data to the System of National Accounts; and 3) to inform both the public and voluntary sectors in policy and program decisions that relate to the charitable and volunteer sector.

Statistics Canada. Special Surveys Division. 2023-09-19 The National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) is a long-term survey designed to measure child development and well-being. The first cycle of the survey was conducted by Statistics Canada in 1994-1995 on behalf of Human Resources Development Canada. The survey looked at households containing children 0 to 11 years of age. It will follow these children over time, collecting information on the children and their families, education, health, development, behaviour, friends, activities, etc. The data collected has been released in two cycles of the NLSCY. The amount of information collected was so extensive a decision was made to have two releases rather than waiting for all of the data to be processed. Release 1 contains information on medical/biological childbirth information, motor and social development, parenting, child care, behaviour, etc.. Release 2 contains information on health, activities, literacy, family and custody history, parent health, neighbourhood safety, puberty, drinking and drugs. A complete list of the sections included in the first and second release can be found in the General Contents files.

Statistics Canada. Special Surveys Division. 2015-03-27 The main purpose of this survey is to study the coverage of the employment insurance program. It provides a meaningful picture of who does or does not have access to EI benefits among the jobless and those in a situation of underemployment. The Employment Insurance Coverage Survey also covers access to maternity and parental benefits. The survey was designed to produce a series of precise measures to identify groups with low probability of receiving benefits, for instance, the long-term jobless, labour market entrants and students, people becoming unemployed after uninsured employment, people who have left jobs voluntarily and individuals who are eligible, given their employment history, but do not claim or otherwise receive benefits. The survey provides a detailed description of the characteristics of the last job held as well as reasons for not receiving benefits or for not claiming. Through the survey data, analysts will also be able to observe the characteristics and situation of people not covered by EI and of those who exhausted EI benefits, the job search intensity of the unemployed, expectation of recall to a job, and alternate sources of income and funds. Survey data pertaining to maternity and parental benefits answer questions on the proportion of mothers of an infant who received maternity and parental benefits, the reason why some mothers do not receive benefits and about sharing parental benefits with their spouse. The survey also allows looking at the timing and circumstances related to the return to work, the income adequacy of households with young children and more.
