The City of Fredericton installed LPR (License Plate Reader) cameras, which work on motion, to count vehicles, and capture photos of vehicle plate numbers and models, which is transmitted into data (and database) using edge computing. This dataset lists the permit holder information including: Camera ID, ID, Confidence % of detection, Camera Timestamp and Hashed License Plate number.
Some possible use cases for the data being considered are:
1. Real-time garage occupancy (# of vehicles) / parking availability.
2. Permit usage- Increase permit sales, flip over to pay-by-plate plus enable the city to estimate permit sales and oversell to increase revenues.
3. Enforcement- when the new pay machines go in that are pay-by-plate, we can find when vehicles enter and don't pay and optimize enforcement to be reactive versus ad-hoc
