Wildfires are a natural part of Kelowna’s wildland ecosystems, however, the proximity of developed lands to forests and grassed slopes results in a wildfire interface hazard for many areas of the community. Development in these areas requires special consideration. Policies that apply to the Wildfire Development Permit Area (DPA) are found in Chapter 20: Hazardous Conditions DPA in the 2040 Official Community Plan (OCP) and are intended to reduce wildfire risk to health and safety of the public, property and infrastructure. The OCP was adopted by Council on the 10th of January, 2022. Read more about the 2040 OCP on kelowna.ca.
