A wellhead is the physical structure of the well above ground. A wellhead protection area is the area around a wellhead where land use activities have the potential to affect the quality and quantity of water that flows into the well. Time of Travel (TOT) Zones determine how long it takes water to move underground to the well itself. Wellhead protection areas and Intake protection zones are categorized by severity,
each containing a vulnerability score as identified in the source protection plans:

Zone A - 100 meter radius surrounding a municipal well

Zone B - Two (2) year travel time for water to enter a municipal well.

Zone C - Ten (10) year travel time for water to enter a municipal
well.

Zone D - Twenty-five (25) year travel time for water to enter a
municipal well.
