Beaver Rock Roastery partnered with Georgian College to improve the safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability of their K-Cup production. In the first phase, two existing filling machines were refurbished, doubling output, reducing waste from 10% to 1%, and enabling the use of biodegradable materials. This work, funded by NSERC Build IE, led to ESA-certified equipment upgrades. Building on that success, Beaver Rock and Georgian secured additional funding from the Ontario Centre of Innovation to design and commercialize new equipment for internal use and broader market application. To date, the project has engaged over a dozen students and faculty from mechanical and electrical programs, providing hands-on applied research experience.
