We conducted a study testing the effect of ecological restoration on the mutualistic functions that arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi perform for plants. Soil was collected from agriculturally cultivated fields and formerly cultivated restored prairies to serve as inoculum in a greenhouse experiment. The effects of connection to mycorrhizal networks on plant performance were determined in Trifolium pratense and Andropogon gerardii plants. These files contain plant performance data in terms of shoot dry mass, root length, leaf inorganic phosphorus, and mycorrhizal root colonization for both species separately. Raw data (collected from the experiment) and log-response ratio data (used for statistical analysis and figures) are included. A meta-data file is included to explain the structure of each dataset.
