Special Surveys Division. — 2023-09-19 The National Private Vehicle Use Survey was conducted by Statistics Canada between October 1994 - September 1996, with the cooperation and support of Natural Resources Canada. This micro-data file contains household based information on the number of personal-use passenger cars, vans and light trucks in Canada for the 1995 calendar year. File information comprises household demographics, fleet profiles, distance travelled, and fuel purchase and fuel-use information for a randomly selected household vehicle. Background data on the household and household vehicle fleet was collected in a telephone interview, while data on fuel consumption patterns were collected by asking respondents to keep a diary of the kilometres driven and fuel purchases for a one month period.

National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth, 1994-1995 [Canada]: Cycle 1, Release 2, Primary File

Statistics Canada. Special Surveys Division. — 2023-09-19 The National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) is a long-term survey designed to measure child development and well-being. The first cycle of the survey was conducted by Statistics Canada in 1994-1995 on behalf of Human Resources Development Canada. The survey looked at households containing children 0 to 11 years of age. It will follow these children over time, collecting information on the children and their families, education, health, development, behaviour, friends, activities, etc. The data collected has been released in two cycles of the NLSCY. The amount of information collected was so extensive a decision was made to have two releases rather than waiting for all of the data to be processed. Release 1 contains information on medical/biological childbirth information, motor and social development, parenting, child care, behaviour, etc.. Release 2 contains information on health, activities, literacy, family and custody history, parent health, neighbourhood safety, puberty, drinking and drugs. National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth, 1996-1997 [Canada]: Cycle 2, 10-13 Year Olds

Statistics Canada. Special Surveys Division. — 2023-09-19 The National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY) is a long-term survey designed to measure child development and well-being. The second cycle, carried out in 1996 and 1997, interviewed parents of the same children as Cycle 1 and provides unique insights into the evolution of children and their family environments over a two-year period. The survey collected informationon children and their families, education, health, development, behaviour, friends, activities, etc. The NLSCY will continue to collect information on these same children every two years as they move into youth and adulthood. Cycle 2 is a cross-sectional file only. There will be no public longitudinal data file due to confidentiality restrictions. Longitudinal analysis can bedone through remote data access.

Survey of Self-employment, 2000 [Canada]

Statistics Canada. Special Surveys Division. — 2023-09-19 This microdata file contains survey data from the Survey of Self-employment. The survey was conducted in April 2000 by Statistics Canada on behalf of Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC). It collected data on the socio-demographic characteristics of the self-employed, as well as the hours they work, previous work experience, participation in dental, health and disability plans, income security, and their attitudes towards self-employment. Nearly one worker out of six was self-employed in 2000, and most of these individuals became and remained self-employed by choice, according to the first results from the Survey of Self-employment. Strong growth in the number of self-employed Canadians that was observed in the 1990s stimulated interest in self-employment. Among the existing sources of information on this topic,the most extensive is Statistics Canada article The Self-employed in the publication Labour force update (71-005-XPB, Autumn 1997, Vol. 1 no.3.) which portrayed the self-employed using data from the Labour Force Survey (LFS), the annual Survey of Consumer Finances, and the 1995 Survey of Work Arrangements. It provided a thorough picture of the basic socio-demographic characteristics of this population, but due to the lack of data it did not cover several specific aspects of self-employment. Human Resources Development undertook to enrich the data sources on self-employment by funding a survey devoted entirely to this topic.
