2013-12-06 The national wetland layer contains wetland data compiled from the best available data from each region, classified by wetland type. Wetlands are mapped as polygons in geographic layers, which are integrated into a master geodatabase at the national scale.Information from each contributing dataset was classified based on the Canadian Wetland Classification System, which contains five main wetland classes (Bog, Fen, Marsh, Swamp, and Shallow Water) that represent the types of wetlands encountered in Canada. An additional category, “partially classified” was used to preserve boundary information for wetlands that could not be classified into the main categories with existing information.

2020-02-25 The Quebec geographic code files correspond to a set of tabular data presenting the most recent portrait of the municipal division in force (file D001) as well as the history of all territorial transactions that have affected municipalities since the establishment of the geographic code system in 1964 (file D002). These files bring together all the information available in the [Directory of Territorial Divisions] (https://statistique.quebec.ca/statistiques/divisions-territoriales/index.html): they include all the transactions listed in the [Changes to Municipalities] newsletters (https://statistique.quebec.ca/statistiques/divisions-territoriales/modifications-municipalites.html), toponyms, codes and other additional information on municipalities, as well as all links of affiliation with other territorial divisions provincial and federal. **Previous versions (up to 1985) of the Quebec geographic code files are available** [here] (https://statistique.quebec.ca/statistiques/divisions-territoriales/fichiers_code_geo/code-geographique-quebec.html). Geographic code files are distributed in two distinct formats: in XML (Extensible Markup Language), which is the recommended format for data exploitation, and in text format. For more details consult the metadata sheet on page 4. 1997-01-23 The Atlas of Canada Base Maps provide coverage of the entire Canadian landmass. Data elements are feature coded and structurally clean. Base map components are available in five scales and a number of data exchange formats. The 1:2 million and 1:7.5 million scales are the primary bases for all Atlas products. The 1:30 million scale data have been generalized from the two larger scales. The data set covers: drainage (coastlines, rivers, lakes), boundaries (federal, provincial, district, dividing lines), transportation (primary and secondary highways, selected ferry routes, rail networks), populated places, national parks. Atlas information is two-dimensional layered vector data.

2015-09-16 The evolution of reproductive isolation (RI) is a critical step shaping progress toward speciation. In the context of ecological speciation, a critical question is the extent to which specific reproductive barriers important to RI evolve rapidly and predictably in response to environmental differences. Only reproductive barriers with these properties (importance, rapidity, predictability) will drive the diversification of species that are cohesively structured by environment type. One candidate barrier that might exhibit such properties is allochrony, whereby populations breed at different times. We studied six independent lake-stream population pairs of threespine stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus, 1758) that are known from genetic studies to show RI. However, the specific reproductive barriers driving this RI have proven elusive, leading to a “conundrum of missing reproductive isolation.” We here show that breeding times differ among some of the populations, but not in a consistent manner between lakes and streams. Moreover, the timing differences between lake and stream populations within each pair could account for only a small proportion of total RI measured with neutral genetic markers. Allochrony cannot solve the conundrum of missing reproductive isolation in lake-stream stickleback. https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/
