Description:
Is there any paternity leave (i.e. available only to fathers), whether paid or unpaid? Paid paternity leave only includes leave that is available exclusively to fathers of infants. It does not include paid parental leave, which is leave that either parent of an infant can take, nor child care leave, which is generally much longer in duration and either unpaid or paid at a lower rate. We report the leave available in weeks under normal conditions, excluding extended leave periods under extraordinary circumstances such as single parents. Also we always assume that fathers met all the qualifying conditions to receive the leave (such as work tenure, payments into Social Security). Longitudinal data is available for every year between 1995 and 2016 for 193 UN Member States.
